About Sheree

Hi, there! I’m glad you’re here. My name is Sheree Benjamin and I’m a Wife, mother of 5 and a Proud Army Veteran. I’m originally from Michigan but recently relocated back to Florida after living in Southern California for 9 years.  My family and I love the beautiful weather and white sand beaches here in Tampa. I enjoy spending time with my family, playing board games, grilling and taking evening walks, listening to music, dancing and sliding across the floor in my socks!

Sheree Benjamin, Marriage and Family Counselor Intern

Why I became a counselor

I became a counselor because I noticed how influential my advice was to others. I started noticing how so many people trusted me enough that they would rely on me to give them positive direction in their lives.  I had my first experience as a counselor in elementary school while being able to redirect a friend with thoughts of hopelessness and in turn, encouraged them to continue to live life instead of taking their own. Life can be challenging at times, having a neutral and non-judgmental person along your side can be very beneficial and empowering.

Education, Experience, and Approach

I have been in the counseling field since 2010. I’m a Registered Marriage and Family therapist intern for the state of Florida (IMT3488). I proudly served in the United States Army for 12 years where I was fortunate to work with our dedicated soldiers as a Behavioral Health Specialist where I assisted with outpatient care and treatment of psychiatric, drug and alcohol patients in addition to holding individual and group sessions, counseling patients with personal, behavioral and psychological problems. I have experience working with individuals who suffer from: PTSD, Anxiety disorders, Adjustment disorders, and depression. My specialties are: Marriage and family therapy, Depression, Women issues and stress management. In addition, I have a passion for working with Adults and children who battle with low self-esteem and unresolved issues.

I graduated from Azusa Pacific University, located in Southern California where I obtained my B.A. in Psychology. I obtained my Masters in Marriage and family Therapy from Touro University (Cum Laude), COAMFTE accredited program, located in Southern California. San Antonio, Texas State Psychiatric Hospital is where I conducted my Clinical Practicum.  I often use positive self-talk, CBT, Humanistic/Client-Centered Counseling and different theoretic approaches that are specific to the client’s individual needs. As your therapist, I will work with you towards your goals so that we may began your journey to healing, self-identification, supportive growth and encouragement. My goal for my clients is to help them to achieve a level of understanding about any challenges they are facing while providing them with the tools necessary to resolve them in a realistic and positive manner. You will have developed beneficial coping mechanisms and new ways to process your thoughts!
