About Lisa Baker, MSW, LCSW

I grew up in Florida and relocated back to Tampa in 2014. I love everything the Tampa Bay area has to offer – beautiful beaches, glorious sunsets, great restaurants and shopping and most of all a community of diverse and interesting people. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, furniture repair/painting/repurposing, gardening, music, movies and binge watching great shows (especially British TV).

Why I became a Counselor?

I think most of my life I have been a social worker secretly disguised as a mere mortal and I just didn’t know it. In 2011, I was diagnosed with a life threatening illness which forced me to make some serious changes in my life, including a career change. With the help of a good therapist, I was able to mentally and emotionally survive it all. When I was ready to return to work, I was inspired by my therapist and knew counseling was a much better fit for me going forward. I love what I do now and feel so blessed to be a part of helping someone move forward in their journey towards healing.

Education, Experience and Approach

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of Florida. I earned my Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Florida in 2017. In addition to working in private practice, I have extensive experience working with Veterans in a hospital setting. I currently work with adults who are suffering from anxiety, stress, relationship problems, low self-esteem, depression, postpartum depression, loss, grief/bereavement, medical crisis, and caregiver distress.

My approach is to establish a structured plan uniquely tailored for you. This involves identifying and assessing the problem areas you want to work on, setting goals, working together to identify and overcome obstacles and measuring our progress along the way. To do this, I utilize cognitive behavioral therapy, combined with talk therapy.
